Jhyaple Khola avalanche strands hundreds of passengers
A avalanche at Jhyaple Khola in Dhading, has caused serious disturbance to activity heading towards Kathmandu. Around half a dozen vehicles were caught in the avalanche, driving to the blockage of the key passage point into the valley.
Rescue operations are underway, and a few travelers have been rerouted through a burrow to reach Kathmandu, whereas others have been sent back to Naubise due to the breaking down street conditions.
“We are uncertain of the correct number of buried vehicles, but so distant, one has been found. Over 3,000 travelers have been securely sent to Kathmandu by means of the burrow, whereas around 500 have been coordinated back to Naubise for their safety,” Reviewer Sitaram Singh said.
Here are a few pictures captured by the Post’s photojournalist Prakash Timilsena, displaying the destruction caused by the avalanche.
